CSAR Scholarships

PLEASE NOTE:

  • "Non-traditional student" is defined as an undergraduate who has had a cumulative or consecutive 5-year gap in their educational journey toward their first bachelor's degree. The gap can be before or during college.
  • Our scholarships are only for US residents or students who meet the requirements of Utah Senate Bill 253. In short, the requirements of SB253 are that you attended a Utah high school for at least 3 years AND graduated from a Utah high school.
  • International students are not eligible for our scholarships.

Samuel & Hermila Alba

The Samuel & Hermila Alba Endowed Scholarship Fund is established at the University of Utah as a way to provide educational assistance through scholarships to deserving undergraduate students.

  • Donor:  The Casa Family Foundation
  • Purpose: To support undergraduate students who have a demonstrated commitment to the Latinx community 
  • Award: $2,500 per semester

Eligibility 

  • GPA 2.75
  • Undergraduate students
  • Full-time (12+ credits)

Priority population

  • Students who demonstrate a commitment to the Latinx community through engagement, leadership, or who contribute to the study of Latinx culture, education, and history.

U Alumni Completion

CSAR is the proud to partner with the Office of Alumni Relations to support students as they complete their undergraduate degree and graduate from the University of Utah. The donor appreciates candidates who demonstrate an interest in remaining engaged as alumni of the U.

  • Donor: University of Utah Office of Alumni Relations
  • Purpose: To assist undergraduates in their final year 
  • Award:  $1,000 for one semester only

Beta Gamma of Alpha Delta Pi

The Beta Gamma chapter of Alpha Delta Pi was created at the University of Utah to enable students' experience in events, service, and leadership during their college careers. The donor is invested in applicants who seek out opportunities for comradery and teamwork with other
students, leadership experiences on campus, and participation in school traditions, events, and
service projects.

  • Donor: Beta Gamma of Alpha Delta Pi Corporation
  • Purpose: To support undergraduate students to complete their courses at the U
  • Award:  $1,000 per semester

  • GPA 3.20
  • Undergraduate students
  • Full-time (12+ credits)
  • Graduate students (only if progeny of Beta Gamma of ADPi member)
  • Must have completed 24 credits at a college or university

Priority Population

  • Progeny of member of Beta Gamma of ADPi (undergraduate or gradute students), OR
  • Undergraduate students who are highly engaged on campus or in the community

Beatrice F. Kroesche Memorial

The Beatrice F. Kroesche Memorial Scholarship for undergraduate students was created to support single parents enrolled in certain degree programs with additional consideration for applicants with physical limitations, including but not limited to hearing and sight. 

  • Donor: The Beatrice F. Kroesche Foundation
  • Purpose: To support single-parent students (or students of single parents) in certain degree programs who have financial need
  • Award:  $1,500 per semester

  • GPA 3.00
  • Undergraduate
  • Full-time (12+ credits)
  • Single parent or raised by a single parent
  • Must have completed 24 credits at a college or university

  • Students enrolled in the following degree programs: Education, Humanities, Engineering, Business, English

Crankstart Re-entry

The Crankstart Foundation is interested in supporting non-traditional, low-income, and underserved students. 

  • Donor: Crankstart Foundation
  • Purpose: To assist non-traditional students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree
  • Award: $2,500 per semester for full-time students; award is prorated for part-time students

  • Part-time eligibile (6+ credits)
  • Non-traditional students
  • Must have completed 24 credits at a college or university

 

Daniels Scholars Success Program (DSSP)

The Daniels Fund established the Daniels Scholar Success Program to support the success of each Daniels Scholar. The program includes more than 18 schools in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

  • Donor: The Daniels Fund
  • Purpose:  DSSP seeks to achieve 4 goals: provide support for scholar success; create a sense of connectedness for Daniels Scholars to to the U, their peers, and to the Daniels Fund; provide scholars direct & regular access to support services and resources related to academics, community engagement, and career preparedness; and facilitate involvement with leadership opportunities on campus and with Daniels Fund staff.
  • Award: Total cost of attendance until graduation

Eligibility 

  • GPA 3.0
  • Incoming first-year students
  • Both SAT scores 490 or greater OR ACT score of 18 or greater
  • Meet financial eligibility requirements described here
  • Resident of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, or Wyoming

Priority population

  • Students who are dependents of families making less than $100K per year

Eni & Hina Faleomavaega Scholarship

Named for Eni Hunkin and Antonina Hinanui, The Eni & Hina Faleomavaega Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization that promotes academic excellence through student scholarships, innovative programs, and it supports other organizations that preserve and perpetuate culture in the Pacific Islands. 

  • Donor: Eni & Hina Faleomavaega Foundation
  • Purpose: To offset tuition & fees to students with a demonstrated commitment and service to Pacific Island communities
  • Award: $500 per semester

  • GPA 3.0
  • Undergraduate students
  • Full-time (12+ credits)

  • Students with a demonstrated commitment to serving Pacific Island communities

Colleen Harker, MD, Advancing Women in Medicine

Dr. Harker saw a need to create pathways for students in STEM fields who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine. 

  • Donor: Colleen Harker, MD
  • Purpose: To support students who are interested in, or are attending, medical school at the University of Utah
  • Award: $1,500 per semester

Eligibility

  • GPA 3.50
  • Pre-med students or medical school students
  • Full-time (12+ credits)
  • Must have completed 24 credits at a college or university

Heidi & Greg Miller Single-Parent Cohort

The Miller Family understands that single-parent students may struggle to stay enrolled in school through graduation and most often cite caregiving responsibilites and limited financial resources as their reasons for leaving. This scholarship seeks to address this need.

  • Donors: Heidi & Greg Miller
  • Purpose: To support cohorts of single parents pursuing their first undergraduate degree
  • Award: Full-ride up to $25,000 per year (depending on student's cost of attendance)

Eligibility

  • GPA 2.70
  • Undergraduate students
  • Donor preference for full-time (12+ credits); will consider students enrolled in 9 credits
  • Single parent

More Information

  • The scholarship may also be used for childcare or other costs of attendance.
  • Scholars will be expected to participate in cohort events for skill-building, support, and community.

Herbert I. & Elsa B. Michael Foundation

The Michael Foundation Scholarship for Academic Excellence was created in 2007 to support CSAR’s goal of the recruitment and retention of students in the STEM fields.

  • Purpose: To support undergraduate students in STEM fields
  • Award: Up to $1,000 per semester

Larry H. & Gail Miller Enchrichment

The Larry H. and Gail Miller Enrichment Scholarship was established in 2002 thanks to the generous support of the Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation. The Miller Enrichment Scholarship awards full tuition and fees, on-campus room and board, a textbook allowance, and in some cases, an experiential learning stipend. A primary goal of the program is to encourage and support student involvement on campus, including volunteer service, and leadership opportunities.

  • Purpose: To support first-year, first-generation students who will contribute to an educationally diverse environment at the University of Utah
  • Award: Full ride, depends on each individual's cost of attendance

Mary Cherry Moslander Roberts

CSAR is proud to offer the Mary Cherry Moslander Roberts Scholarship for 30 years and counting!

  • Donors: Mary Cherry Moslander Roberts Scholarship Fund
  • Purpose: To support underrepresented non-traditional students pursuing their first undergraduate degree 
  • Award: $1,000 per semester

Utah NASA Space Grant Consortium

APPLY NOW THRU 12/1!

NASA initiated the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Project, also known as Space Grant, in 1989. Space Grant is a national network of colleges and universities. These institutions are working to expand opportunities for Americans to understand and participate in NASA’s aeronautics and space projects by supporting and enhancing science and engineering education, research and public outreach efforts.

  • Donor: NASA Space Grant Program
  • Purpose: To prepare students for NASA-related careers
  • Award: $1000 for one semester

Osher Re-entry

The Osher Re-entry Scholarship Foundation was founded in 1977 by Bernard Osher to assist  non-traditional students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree.

  • Purpose: To support non-traditional students pursuing their first undergraduate degree
  • Award: $2,000 per semester for full-time; $1,000 per semester for part-time

Primary Children's

The Primary Children’s Hospital Medical Executive Committee believes it is essential to provide educational opportunities for undergraduate learners with a desire to enter the healthcare field. 

  • Donor: Primary Children’s Hospital Medical Executive Committee
  • Purpose: To support students preparing to join the healthcare field
  • Award: $2,000 per semester

Eligibility

  • First-year undergraduate students
  • Full time (12+ credits)
  • Studying in medical-related field

Priority Populations

  • Students enrolled in a medically relevant course of study, including pre-med, nursing, psychology, nutrition, speech/hearing, and public health

Pete & Arline Harman Trust

The Pete and Arline Harman Trust Scholarship Fund was created to assist non-traditionaal students with families in their educational pursuits.

  • Donors: Pete and Arline Harman Trust
  • Purpose: To support adult learners with families 
  • Award: $2,500 per semester 

Eligibility

  • GPA 2.70
  • Undergraduate or graduate students
  • Full-time (12+ credits)
  • Undergraduate, non-traditional student parent OR graduate student parent 
  • Students must be enrolled in in-person classes only
  • Must have completed 24 credits at a college or university
  • Must be Utah resident

Resolute Fund

This scholarship was created to assist undegraduate students pursuing STEM degrees, specifically Math and Data Science.

  • Award: $2,500 per semester

  • Majoring in Math (with an emphasis in Statistics) or Data Science

Simmons Family Foundation

This scholarship was created to assist parents who are working to achieve their educational goals.

  • Purpose: To support students who are parents facing childcare barriers
  • Award: $1,000 per semester

Sorenson Legacy Foundation

The Sorenson Legacy Foundation is a non-profit corporation established by the James LeVoy Sorenson Family for the exclusive purpose of promoting charitable, religious, educational, literary, and scientific endeavors.

  • Purpose: To support students who have experienced challenges to achieving their degree
  • Award: $1,000 per semester

Utah Opportunity Scholarship

For over 20 years, this scholarship has supported first-time incoming freshman in achieving their undegraduate degree.

  • Award: $8,000 per year for up to 4 years

Willy the Plumber 

This scholarship is intended to help defray the cost of pursuing an undergraduate degree for students who have been impacted by their parent(s) being incarcerated.

  • Purpose: To support students who have experienced challenges to achieving their degree
  • Award: $500 per semester
